THE HOUses of boksburg high school
Learners and staff are divided into four Houses:
Celts (red), Gauls (purple), Picts (green) and Scots (yellow).
Although BHS has always had the four Houses, it is only recently that a more structured House system has been implemented. To read more about the House structure as well as the benefits of the House system, click here.
HOUSE CUPS
Each year, the four Houses compete in various events in order to win the House Cups.
House Points are tallied at the end of each year and House Cups are awarded to the House that excelled in either Academics, Sport, Spirit or Cultural. The coveted Viking Cup is awarded to the House with the highest points overall.
Polaris Cup - Academics
Named for the North Star to acknowledge the Viking invention of the magnetic compass. Awarded to the House with the highest points in academics.
Gladiator Cup - Sport
Named for the armed combatants who entertained audiences in the Roman Empire in the great games. Awarded to the House with the highest points in sport.
Valkyrie Cup - Spirit
Named for the Norse battle maidens who decided soldiers' fates. Awarded to the House with the highest points in spirit.
Havamal Cup - Cultural
Named for the poem in the Viking Edda, presenting advice for proper conduct and wisdom. Awarded to the House with the highest points in cultural.
Viking Cup - Overall winner
Named for the seafaring North Germanic people who raided, traded, explored and settled in Europe. Awarded to the House with the highest points overall.
